What is design? There is no definitive answer; it depends on your point of view, your experiences and your taste. Just as many designer stick to the rules while others experiment out with them! The main purpose of design is to communicate visually to people and send out the right messages. However there are certain elements to look out for and even if you want to exploit these, it’s good to have a basic knowledge of the components of design. Design involves problem solving, planning and most important of all, creativity.

Designmantic have designed an infographic visualising the principles of design in an alphabetical form. Many of the elements refer to typography use (kerning, leading, tracking), visual representations (harmony, negative space, repetition) and a designer’s general attitude (forward thinking, instinct, youthful)! These are all helpful elements that every designer should know about when working on their projects.
