With Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them arriving in cinemas on the November 18th, and the unfortunate loss of Alan Rickman on January 14th (the brilliant actor who played Severus Snape; I took a moment to talk about his work in my last review), there have been many tribute fan-arts for Harry Potter and of Severus Snape going about, but there is a series of illustrations which have really caught my eye!

Gabriel Picolo who is freelance illustrator based in Brazi, regularly posts stunning illustration on many subjects especially from entertainment like Studio Ghibli, Kingdom Hearts, Alice in Wonderland, Final Fantasy, and so many more. Recently he has compiled a series of illustrations based on the Harry Potter books which are brilliant.

His style of illustration are almost like extracts from the magical books within the novels like ‘Book of Spells’, ‘Quidditch Manual’, ‘1000 Magical Herbs and Fungi’ and even ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them’. Picolo has drawn text and diagrams, but in the bottom left corner on top of the ‘extracts’ has drawn and coloured in illustrations of moments within Harry Potter’s timeline when each magical object, spell or animal is used.

“I was inspired by some of the movies’ screenshots,” he explained, speaking to The Escapist. “When they show a glimpse of the spell books, I thought that, as a fan, I would like to see something like this coming to life.” According to Picolo, each drawing takes about “five to six hours” to complete.

Some examples include the Wingardium Leviosa spell (Hermione and Ron first learn it), the Pheonix (specifically Dumbledore’s pet, Fawkes), werewolves (Professor Lupin’s condition). His most recent illustration is of the Occlumency spell when Snape uses it to help Harry in the Order of the Pheonix, and is a great commemoration to the late Alan Rickman.

Below are his different online pages and all 11 illustrations in this series so far! Hope to see more!

Is there any way to buy it? If yes, where can I find it and how much does it cost? 🙂
