For my BA project I’m currently finalising the illustrations for each of 10 classical pieces of music for the a BBC “Ten Pieces” booklet. All of the pieces’ illustration will have this same look, and look a little abstract; trying to create images that people can relate to with the music but isn’t a specific image (music is conceptual after all). This one is for Connect It by Anna Meredith.
This piece was specifically created for Ten Pieces as a piece which doesn’t use any orchestral instruments, but uses body percussion instead. This piece uses different sounds and motions (clapping, stomping, yelling, etc) so is as much visual stimulate as it is for sound (recommend watching the video). I used these shapes to create action and rhythm in this illustration; almost like shapes you see in comic books to emphasise action. And I chose the colour combination of green, orange and yellow as they are energetic and lively. Do you think this piece is energetic? Does it seem appropriate for a body percussion piece? Comment your thoughts below.
Watch Connect It body percussion video on the ‘Ten Pieces’ site.
UPDATE: My Ten Pieces project is now complete and can be seen in the projects section.
