For my BA project I’m currently finalising the illustrations for each of 10 classical pieces of music for the a BBC “Ten Pieces” booklet. All of the pieces’ illustration will have this same look, and look a little abstract; trying to create images that people can relate to with the music but isn’t a specific image (music is conceptual after all). This one is for Short Ride in a Fast Machine by John Adams.
This piece with it’s fast tempo gives you the idea that you are in a vehicle speeding past everything, getting faster and faster, swerving to dodge objects going past you, so I decided to make sure the illustration with the same zooming effect. I didn’t want there to be a specific focal point so I mainly used blacks, greys and some colours to make people’s eyes dart to different bits in the illustration. What’s your opinion? Do you think this illustration does justice for this piece of music? Comment your thoughts below.
