Great scott! This is heavy! It has been thirty years since Back to the Future first released in cinemas, and today (October 21st, 2015) is the date that Marty McFly travels in time to the future! We finally got to it the slow way round, but unfortunately we are still waiting for flying cars, hydrating pizzas or Michael Jackson waitering us! In light of the anniversary and Marty’s arrival into the future, I’ve decided to rank the 3 parts of Back to the Future! Again like my MCU list ranking, this is my own opinion of which are the best so is in no way shape or form, fact! Because all these films are brilliant (so good that I’m seeing a marathon of them tonight at Silverburn Cineworld in Glasgow) I’m going to take the mick out of the timey-wimey plot-holes. Oh and don’t read any further if you haven’t watched the trilogy; instead go and watch the trilogy! Come on – who hasn’t seen Back to the Future!?

Back to the Future Part II
(1989)

After visiting the future of 2015, Marty McFly and Doc Brown must repeat their visit to 1955 to prevent disastrous changes to 1985… without interfering with their first trip and running
into their other-selves.

Three time zones wrapped into one; it couldn’t get better than that. Firstly the future (2015) with hover boards, flying cars, hydrating pizzas, video conferencing…basically Tomorrowland! Then a twisted reality (1985) which turns out to actually be the real 2015 where people smoke multi-flavoured evaporations, prime ministers are getting piggy with it and the invasion of screens, whether they be computers, phones or TVs! Then finally we go “Back to the Past”…should have named the film that.

Overall a great film but like all the Back to the future films, there are quite a few plot-holes. Like surely the future would have changed around Marty and Doc when old Biff returns in the stolen DeLorean? And why was older and younger Jennifer shocked at seeing each other? Surely Jennifer knew she’d probably see her future self in the ‘future’ and her older self must have remembered she travelled in time!

Back to the Future Part III
(1990)

Enjoying a peaceable existence in 1885, Doctor Emmet Brown is about to be killed by Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen. Marty McFly travels
back in time to save his friend!

At second place is Part III which is so riddled with wild western motifs that they decided to set the film in the Wild West (1885)! The best moments in this film is when the steam train is involved; pushing the DeLorean and then appearing as a time machine at the end even although how impractical that would be compared to a car. Imagine going to the birth of Christ in a steam train!

But as much as I love the adrenaline getting the car to 88 miles per hour, surely there must be two DeLoreans now in 1885? The one that Marty travels back to 1885 with, and the one that Doc Brown would still have probably still full of gasoline! And saving Marty the trip to 1885, surely Doc Brown would remember his younger self sending Marty back to 1885, and also know that
he is going to be shot by Tannen therefore know to give
the $80 to Tannen up front!

Back to the Future
(1985)

Marty McFly is accidentally sent 30 years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown, and must make sure his high-school-age parents unite in order to save his own existence.

This is the best in my opinion; when you ask each person for their favourite it always varies between the three, but this film probably takes the majority. Can’t beat a bit of 50s music like Johnny B. Goode and Earth Angel when time is restored for George, Lorraine and Marty! And learning the moral that if you go back in time make sure your parents don’t get the hots for you!

But honestly, surely George and Lorraine would recognise their own son when he returns to the present date? He had such an impact on both of their lives that they even name Marty…after himself! With time-travel it is all very convenient like the lightning striking at exactly 10:04:00pm and not a second out, but surely Doc Brown couldn’t have known it’d be that exact second!? What was very inconvenient though was Doc forgetting to load the extra plutonium and only remembering moments before he is shot – but as long as the luggage is loaded that’s fine!

Well that’s all three Back to the Future films! Robert Zebecks has assured fans there will be no continuation of films in this franchise, and rightly so! Hollywood needs to leave good films alone and stop remaking them or adding sequels! Do you agree with the order that I’ve put these films in? What order would you put them in? Which is your favourite? Comment what you think below and be sure to look out for other ranked films in the future (or in the past)! Speaking of which if you haven’t seen my ranking list of the Marvel Cinematic Universe be sure to have a look!
